Dedicated to rescuing the sick, injured, overlooked and forgotten due to their medical condition.
Please be aware that S.A.F.E. does ask quite a few questions on their adoption application. This isn't because we're nosey or trying to be intrusive, but because we would like to match the correct dog with the right family.
For example, most of the smaller dogs don't do well with young children or perhaps the dog has a lot of energry and would do great with an active family. We would just like to make sure the match that is being made will be a good one for both the dog and the family!
Please fill out an adoption application and fax it or email it back to us or bring it in to Petco at our adoption event on Saturdays.
Adoption fees are $190 per dog - even the ones we spend hundreds or thousands on!! Please consider donating a little bit extra if you are able to so we may continue to save the sick and injured! It is tax deductible!!!!
We also ask for you to write a check out to Animal Control for the licensing to be put into your name at the time of adoption (usually $20)
Please NOTE: If you rent/lease, we will need written proof of your ability to have pets, i.e. rental/lease agreement. Please be prepared to provide this at the time of submitting your application.
Remember, it takes time for a new rescue dog to adjust to his surroundings. This could be as little as a few days and up to several months. Please be patient with your new family member.
PLEASE NOTE: These are shelter dogs. They are NOT housetrained. Please be prepared and ready to spend time housetraining your new family member.

ADOPTION POEM
I adopted your pet today...
The one you left at the pound;
The one you had for ten years
And no longer wanted around.
I adopted your pet today...
Did you know that he's lost weight?
Did you know he's scared and depressed
And so afraid of is fate?
I adopted your pet today...
He had fleas and a little cold;
Guess you don't care what shape he's in.
You abandoned him, I am told.
I adopted your pet today...
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies,
Or was there NO reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your pet today...
He doesn't play or even eat ;
I guess he's very sad inside and
and feels so much defeat.
I adopted your pet today...
And here he is going to stay;
He's found his FOREVER home
And a warm bed in which to lay.
I adopted your pet today...
And shall give him all that he will need,
Patience, love, and security,
So he can forget your selfish deed.

Here are a few things to remember when introducing a new pet into the home:
PATIENCE! Remember, "scruffy" is probably very scared and nervous and may take a while to adjust to his new surroundings. He may have "accidents" for a while until he learns the new routine. NEVER hit him as a form of discipline for these "accidents". NEVER rub their nose in it. They don't understnd what you are doing.
Remember to have a place that your new family member can go of his own to feel safe, i.e. doggie bed, crate.

The Meaning of Rescue
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage,
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret. Hmmmm ...
Yes, there it is, right on the top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, heartache and Loss,
And there by my bed hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Or will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
And never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
